Detailed story board

Here is a longer story board detailing the individual aspects of the clip. Robyn did an excellent job, however now we need to think of the logistics, of what we are capable of achieving with the gingerbread and camera angles. The next step is to experiment making gingerbread and having them in different positions

Story line brief

From the mini storyboards Robyn and I came up with a brief storyline to go by, mentioning the main elements of the clip:

1. 3 on a tray

2. Stand up to show they're alive

3. Walk down the counter

4. Get bowl

5. Push ingredients

6. 2 hold note saying amount

7. Third by ingredient, another frame and they get closer to bowl and then ingredients are in the bowl (improvise by these guidelines for other ingredients)

8. Around bowl as mixing occurs by itself

9. Time in oven shown by clock ticking and men changing positions every 5 minutes

10. Men walk with tray

11. Gingerbread men get decorated

12. Rise row by row

13. March to house

Extended version: House making

If we have enough time then we will show the house being made, but this could make the clip too long winded, however as its only the first it is more than likely to change a lot by the time we come to start shooting.

Mini Story board

In class we were discussing the sequence of shots for the beginning of the clip, as they we were coming up with ideas quite quickly, Robyn started a story bored to show each one to help us see exactly what we were talking about.

Option 1: It starts off as one gingerbread man, then a shot of an army of gingerbread men about to take an adventure. (no objective yet)

Option 2: A gingerbread house being built up in stages all on its own. Once built shots of one gingerbread man leaving the house, shortly followed by a long line. Enough to create an 'army' of them that then go of on an adventure. (no objective yet)

Option 3: On a baking try three gingerbread men lay, then a sequence of shots have them rising and then walking off on an adventure. (no objective yet)

Stop Motion - Cup Cake

The beginning of this video I feel is a little bit long, all the ingredients gather together and then dance round in a circle one way then the other. When it came to the mixing of the ingredients the bowl was in the middle of the shot, and the ingredients came into shot one at a time with a small piece of card with the amount needed. Most of the time I was unable to read them as they appeared and disappeared to fast, this is something we will have to consider in our animation.

Introducing icake - the self-baking cake

The way this was made is quite easy to see when watching the video. The equipment is controlled using thin wire making it easier to have shots of spoons and cups lifting. I don't particularly find it aesthetically easy to watch the butter slide across the counter creating all the mess (even though I like the idea of the cloth cleaning up). Also I think I prefer the idea of the gingerbread men making the dough as it creates more of a story.

Food stop motion animation

  

In this video the rolls make themselves, coming out of the bag and across the table to the pile of fillings. It doesn't show the steps of cutting and sorting the filling, just has each item appearing in the roll. For our animation I think I would prefer to have more detail.

 Chocolate lava cake stop-motion recipe

This has a combination of photos taken for the animation with the ingredients and instructions added in when editing. It is clear and simple to follow although not very interesting. And a point I have learned from this is not to use potatoes as a substitute for eggs when filming as it is very noticeable.

Idea- thought.

In response to the brief, Robyn and I decided to go with the interactive instructions with our gingerbread men idea. In more detail we thought 3 or 4 men could make more gingerbread people showing the recipe as they went.

To have more understanding of instructional recipe stop motion videos, I will look to youtube videos of baking.

Clips and Adverts

Following the notes we made of clips and adverts we could remember that had either stop motion animation or were related to gingerbread, here are two that we thought of.

The first is the Doritos & Salsa advert that was created using stop motion animation. This would be a source of influence as we both Robyn and I want our gingerbread men to move around as if they are alive just like the doritos, instead of use using our hands to move them about that I have seen in some very basic short clips.

The second is a short film, a spin off from the film Shrek, although this is far beyond our capabilities in the short time frame we have it is still very useful. The main use of this film are the decorations of the gingerbread people, icing for the features with small sweets for the buttons(on Gingy) the decoration for the girl looks as if it is all icing.
